Mozaffari school

Mozaffari School is an important historical building in Isfahan. This school is located at the end of one side of Isfahan Jame Mosque. A number of historians have attributed this building to the era of Omar Abdul Aziz, the Umayyad caliph, or to Omar Ibn Abdul Aziz Abi Dolf from the Abi Dolf dynasty. This building was built in the period of 757 to 778 AH and has dimensions of 25 x 65 meters.

This school has two floors and there are rooms for teaching and education on different floors. On the south side of the school, the porch, the dome and the altar are also located. The main porch of the school has dimensions of 10 x 10 meters, which is connected to the porch with 5 meter wide corridors. In this school, apart from teaching, worship was also performed. The tiling decorations and the triangle line used in the school have increased the beauty of this building.

Other features of Mozaffari School include the Shabestan. The chapel of this school has dimensions of 11 x 19 meters and with eight gates decorated. These gates are decorated with different bricks in white, red and green colors. These colorful decorations were added to the style of the artists of the 8th century A.H. and we do not see them in the periods after that. This part of the school is called Library It is also famous, although it was mostly used for prayer and worship. After the destruction of the Seljuk style, this part was restored and reconstructed in later periods.

There are various inscriptions on the sofe of Omar. These inscriptions contain different names and stories from different historical periods.

The vault of Omar bin Abd al-Aziz or the ceiling above this section is also decorated. In this ceiling, historical and decorative lines are used. This roof is decorated in a crescent style with three building lines and was designed by Hassan Karun.

The altar inscription of Mozaffari school is also one of the decorations of this place. This inscription is written in Tholut and Nastaliq script and on azure clay tile and it shows verses from Surah Toba. There are other inscriptions in this section that belong to different time periods and different authors.

In general, Mozaffari School or Safa Omar bin Abdul Aziz is one of the prominent examples of historical Iranian architecture with beautiful decorations and a deep connection with the history of Isfahan. The history and various decorations of this rich building have turned it into a historical jewel in the heart of Isfahan.
