As a large and important porch in Isfahan Jame Mosque, the dervish porch has played an important role in people’s lives and religious and cultural activities. First, in the Seljuq era, it was created as the last porch of the mosque with unique design and decorations, and in the Safavid era, it played a very important role in teaching hadiths and Ahlul Bayt culture.

The dimensions of the Darvish porch are 60.21 meters long and 9 meters wide, and it is considered one of the largest porches in Isfahan Jame Mosque. This porch is the narrowest and deepest porch of this mosque, which shows the importance and position of this building in promoting religious culture throughout history.

Why this name?

The name “Darvish” goes back to this most recent historical period, the Safavid era, and belongs to a scientist and hadith teacher named Darvish Muhammad. During the summer days, this dervish Muhammad used to teach the important hadiths of Ahl al-Bayt in the dervish room, and because of this cultural activity, Ivan was known by her name.

This porch has brick and plaster decorations inside the building, which increases the beauty and artistic value of this building. Also, a large part of its walls is limited to the old adobe walls of the mosque, which shows the long life of this religious place. The art of plastering has also been noticed in the inscriptions and decorations of this porch, and this work has been done using Kufi and Masonic lines.

In the years 1334 AH and 1337 AH, it took on new decorations using new masonry slabs. These decorations include hollowed bricks and tiles that contribute to the building’s beauty and visual appeal. Various spurs are also placed on the exterior of this porch, which are decorated with beautiful and unique decorations.

In addition to masonry and plaster decorations, important inscriptions are also found in this porch. These inscriptions are made using Kufic script and in raised form, and various topics such as the importance of Ahl al-Bayt, Islamic ethics and the virtues of prayer are expressed in them. These inscriptions show the history of the importance of Ivan and emphasize the importance of Islamic culture and virtues.

This porch was damaged over time, but it was restored to its original and beautiful state with the necessary repairs and modifications. Among the improvements made in the porch, we can mention the removal of soil, installation of ventilation around the porch, and flooring.
