Isfahan Jame Mosque

Ivan Sahib (south side)

In Isfahan Jame Mosque, there is a very important porch called “Ivan Sahib” whose dimensions are 80.13 meters in length and 50.13 meters in width. This porch is located on the south side of the mosque and its name is derived from the name of “Saheb Ibn Abbad”.

Sahib bin Ebad was a writer, writer, poet and minister of the Shiite religion during the rule of Rokn al-Dawlah Daylami and he taught in this place. He died in Ray in 385 AH and his body was moved to Isfahan and buried in a house in Toqchi neighborhood. Since then, people continue to visit his tomb in this place.

During the reign of Shah Tahmasb, mosaic tiles with various designs and colors were used on the exterior of this porch. These tiles added a beautiful variety to the exterior of the porch. But in all these decorations, the original architecture of the porch has been preserved in the style of Razi architecture. Inside the moqrans of the owner’s page, sentences are engraved with black calligraphy on a checkered brick background, some of which show names of divine names.

One of the important works on the south wall of the porch is a high-precision and unique tiling panel. This tiling shows exactly the compositions of Shah Tahmasb and Ismail plates. Also, on top of the tiling inscription, it can be seen that the name of one of the masters of this work is written in the handwriting of Kamaluddin Hossein Hafez Heravi.

The external crescent tablets of the owner’s side also have two parts. The first part consists of rectangular plates with a white triangular line on the azure tile background, and the second part includes quadrangular plates and smaller rectangular plates. These panels have added a special beauty to the exterior of the porch.

The inscription of Uzon Hassan is also one of the other works that can be seen in the Abbasi Grand Mosque. This Maraq inscription is related to the reign of the Agh Qoyunlu dynasty. This inscription refers to the actions of Uzon Hasan Aqqoyunlu in 880 lunar year to repair and restore Isfahan Jame Mosque.

was written in 938 A.H. on a lapis lazuli tile with a thul script and Quranic verses related to this place are mentioned in it.

Jame Mosque of Isfahan contains history and connection with various historical figures. The inscription of Shah Abbas II, the stone inscription, the inscription of Sengab Safa, and the inscription of Ab Mubah are other important works that can be seen in the Abbasid Grand Mosque and give us a better understanding of the history and different meanings of this place.
